The 3.18 version of the Nextcloud Files app for Android is out, bringing new functionalities and more than 190 fixes & improvements to the users. If your phone has not updated it yet, get the updates on Google Play or F-Droid!
Note: This release will be available on Fdroid after up to 24 hours.
Calendar backup/restore
With this update of the Nextcloud Files app for Android, now you will be able to back up not only contacts but also your calendar!
You can control enabling or dissabling contact and calendar backup through the “settings” screen. Automating a daily backup is also possible, as well as the ability to restore the latest backup.
This way, you’ll never miss a meeting, unless you want to miss one 😉
Unified search
The Files app for Android is now using unified search for finding data across applications, that means it shows results from all apps. You can search for keywords and you’ll get results not only from the Files app, but also every other app that is installed on your Nextcloud server and supports this, like the Talk messages, Deck cards and boards, Contacts etc.
Convenience on the go!
Sharing permissions improvements
The sharing process is redesigned, allowing for more fine tuning of permissions:
Upload-only folders
Notes
Toggling whether the folder can be reshared or not etc
Of course many fixes, refinements and features are being made regularly and older versions of Nextcloud are not supported. If you run an outdated, unsupported Nextcloud, the Android app will warn you of the risks. Nextcloud 16 is the oldest release that will work with this version of our app and you will get a warning if you are still running Nextcloud 18 or older.
Enterprise users
Note that Nextcloud offers long term support for companies, as sometimes they have to use older versions. Contact our sales team for more information on this.
Private users
Note that this version of the Nextcloud Android client (version 3.18) is supported on Android 6.0 and newer. We strongly recommend private users to upgrade their Nextcloud servers.
