Last weekend, we rocked FOSDEM with a team of eleven Nextclouders at our booth. We had a massive number of visitors asking us about Nextcloud and what we’re up to. The coming months we will visit many other events, including FOSSASIA in Singapore, MWC in Barcelona, SCALE in California and many more. Here’s a short FOSDEM report and information on the upcoming events!
FOSDEM takes place in Belgium on the first weekend in February and is the largest Free and Open Source event in Europe. We had a booth as well as ten amazing people helping out: @DenisaR, @eppfel, @Silva.Arapi, @Jan, @bjoern, @frank, @jospoortvliet, @LEDfan, @mabkenar, Raghu Nayyar and Toon van Gerwen. Super many thanks to each and everyone of you!
Many users asking us questions had already migrated or were planning to and asked about version compatibility and the process of migration. In response we published an extensive upgrade/migration guide in our blog.
You can find tweets from the visitors here, here and here. Some of our favorites:

Next week, in Stuttgart, Germany, the didacta trade fair for education and training kicks off. Together with our friends at Univention we will present Nextcloud to the visitors (link to German blog). Friday the 17th at 12:00 Frank Karlitschek and Cord Martens (from Univention) will talk about how schools and universities can protect their data while enabling their students and teachers to seamlessly collaborate through Nextcloud.
Besides the talk you can find us with a demo at the Univention booth and if you register on the Univention site you can get a free ticket to the conference!
From February 27 to March 2, in Barcelona, the Mobile World Congress takes place. This HUGE event will have a Nextcloud presence, shared with our friends at Canonical. Look up the fresh blue color between the bright orange at the Ubuntu booth! You can even book a meeting on the Canonical site to discuss Nextcloud, the Nextcloud Box and IoT technology.
March 2, in Pasadena (close to Los Angelos, California) the biggest open source event in North America kicks off: SCALE15x. Of course, Nextcloud is there. We have two talks scheduled, one by Frank and one by Jos and you can also find us at our booth, staffed by Frank, Jos and Matt ‘g33kdad’ McGraw. If you are interested in getting a full 50% discount for entree ticket to SCALE, use our code CLOUD
and save!
If you’re interested in helping out at our booth (that comes with a free entree ticket to SCALE) – let us know on the forums.
On March 11 and 12, in Chemnitz, Germany, Chemnitzer Linux Tage takes place. We’ll have a booth at this conference and you can discuss with us Nextcloud and the future of private cloud computing! Discuss on the forums if you want to join or just meet us there.
March 17, in Singapore, the largest Asian open source event kicks off. FOSSASIA brings together thousands of open source enthusiasts and you guessed it – Nextcloud is there! Frank Karlitschek will give an opening keynote at the conference, sharing the experiences of running a successful open source project, challenging industry-incumbents, putting users back in control over their data. If you’re interested in meeting us there, let us know on the forums!
April 26th, in Gothenburg, between Copenhagen, Oslo and Stockholm, FOSS-North will kick off. Jos will give a talk there and is looking forward to meet local and international FOSS enthusiasts!
In May we already have two events scheduled: on May 8, OSCON will start in Austin, Texas and Frank will give a talk there. Just a week later, May 13-14, OSCAL happens in Tirana, Albania, giving visitors a chance to listen to a talk by Jan-Christoph Borchardt and meet us at the booth.
There will probably be more events added to the list the coming weeks and months but there is one that deserves special attention…
We don’t “just” visit other events! August 22 to 29, the TU Berlin will host the Nextcloud Community for a week of coding, discussion and talks. We announced that registration was open last week and more news is coming, block the dates in your calendar and stay tuned! As a warm-up you can read up on the event from last year and watch the videos on our YouTube channel.
