Nextcloud Enterprise Day is soon here and we have an amazing lineup of speakers providing insightful talks!
One of those speakers is Mr. Birkner from the State Institute for School Quality and Teacher Training in Saxony-Anhalt (LISA) in Germany.
In preparation for his talk at the Nextcloud Enteprise Day on June 13th, we asked him a few questions!
Could you introduce yourself and LISA?
“My name is Achim Birkner and my job title is “Specialist for Digital Educational Services.” This role combines my background in educational research with system administration and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd level user support. I manage together with my colleagues our Nextcloud cluster and speak to our teachers when they receive errors or have questions.
Nextcloud is one of our services that we offer within the teacher-portal www.bildung-lsa.de.
The quality of schools is the focus of the work of the State Institute for School Quality and Teacher Education in Saxony-Anhalt (LISA). The basis for this is the School Act of the state of Saxony-Anhalt, the recommendations for action from the Education Convention on internal school reform and quality development for the state of Saxony-Anhalt, and the quality framework for school work, which applies to all types of schools. LISA sees itself as a central element of the support system for the schools in the state and is a partner and service provider for all those involved in school education processes.”
Could you explain why LISA choose to deploy Nextcloud?
“In 2017 LISA needed a reliable and GDPR compliant contender to Google Drive and Dropbox.”
What will be the key take-aways for people who listen to your talk at the Enterprise Day?
“How to implement Nextcloud into existing portals/communities.
How to make your life (not) complicated as a Nextcloud administrator.”
Answers are from Achim Birkner, Specialist for Digital Educational Services, Department: Digitality in School Education, State Institute for School Quality and Teacher Training Saxony-Anhalt.

As part of Schleswig-Holstein's state digitization strategy, the state chancellery has announced they will work with Nextcloud to develop AI for working with government documents. This comes just after we announced the first private AI assistant last weekend with Hub 6. The German state already uses Nextcloud and their AI strategy aligns with our work on ethical, local AI technologies.
Over the last year, AI has become a popular topic. Some is hype, some is substance. Some is good, some is bad. We want to give you the good, not the bad, and ignore the hype! AI has a ton of opportunity – but also risk. So we put you in control – off by […]
The serious security flaws in ownCloud (now owned by Kiteworks) do NOT affect Nextcloud. We have strict security processes in place, and do not ship test data from libraries that can cause security breaches.
