Nextcloud Hub 26 Spring delivers new office experience, lighter UI and and a new governance tool

Berlin/Stuttgart, 09.06.2026. This month marks the tenth anniversary of the founding of Nextcloud, which was established to create a human-centred collaboration platform that gives its users true sovereignty. With its latest release, Nextcloud Hub 26 Spring introduces a new office option and makes the user interface lighter and more intuitive, and introduces Nextcloud Governance, an enterprise compliance and data governance platform built for organizations operating under strict regulatory requirements.

Euro-Office and Collabora: there is a real choice.

In the past few months, as part of a European industry initiative, Nextcloud has developed a new office suite that is fully open source and truly sovereign. With the release of Nextcloud Hub 26 Spring, Euro-Office has officially become part of the Nextcloud Office range, alongside the well-known Collabora Office option.

Euro-Office is a complete office suite featuring collaborative editors for text documents, spreadsheets, presentations and PDF files. The software comes with a familiar interface, delivers critical compatibility with Microsoft Office files, and employs local data processing that delivers faster rendering and a more responsive user experience and reduced server load.

Euro-Office has already been integrated in the Nextcloud platform, offering the Smart Picker to insert any kind of resource from Nextcloud like tasks, data tables, links to files and chat rooms and more. The Nextcloud Assistant brings AI features to Euro-Office and the built in document conversion feature in Nextcloud can employ Euro-Office to convert different file formats.

Collabora is the traditional Nextcloud Office solution available for administrators. This release brings improvements across all editors to increase interoperability and deliver a smoother experience. A new sidebar enables users to chat with the Nextcloud Assistant while working on a document, making it possible to generate content and receive assistance with spreadsheet errors. The status bar is now customizable, making the user experience much more productive.

In addition to the core Office suites, other productivity applications have also been improved. One notable enhancement is the improved offline mode for Nextcloud Text. The text editor now has offline capabilities for up to five minutes when working with intermittent networks. As Text is a universal component used by other Nextcloud apps, from the information field above a folder or the description of a Deck card to the Notes app, these improvements make large parts of Nextcloud more resilient during network interruptions. The Collectives application, also using Text, even supports browsing knowledge bases while off-line, provided the pages have been opened before.

The Nextcloud Deck app introduces a much requested GANTT chart feature, adding start- and end dates to tasks as well as dependencies, enabling much more advanced project tracking and management.

The Nextcloud Tables app, a structured data management tool used for modeling and facilitating basic processes by customers like Schleswig-Holstein, was updated with new view options and the ability to share a table through a public link for collaboration with external participants..

More focus thanks to a lighter User interface

The Nextcloud Hub 26 Spring update introduces a new waffle menu as application switcher, similar to other collaboration tools people tend to be familiar with. Other interface elements were updated to minimize distractions by reducing the number of prominent buttons and simplified indications for active tabs in the sidebars on the left and right.

Enterprise compliance management with Nextcloud Governance

Large organizations that deal with specific regulations such as complex archival rules or freedom-of-information requests advanced data governance tools. This release introduces Nextcloud Governance as a solution for larger enterprises. This platform delivers enhanced oversight regarding access to classified data, the administration of information over its life cycle, and the execution of regulatory procedures.

It gives the administrators a good overall picture of how their organization is set up when it comes to compliance, helping to keep track of and have control over the data. It offers sensitivity labels that control access rights, can be used to enact a legal hold on files and create rules that control when documents are deleted, while providing built in documentation and tools to track compliance tasks.

Hub 26 Spring also brings updates to Nextcloud Talk and Whiteboard, Nextcloud Files, Nextcloud Groupware, Nextcloud Flow, and the Nextcloud Assistant, as well as to the mobile and desktop clients. These all improve performance and user experience and introduce critical features. More information on the improvements in our launch blog.

Despite these many improvements, by far the most resources were invested in architectural improvements, ensuring excellent stability, and performance. By code changes, the feature work done consists of only 4 % of the modifications, with the vast majority reflecting the extensive efforts in maintenance to ensure a reliable and secure platform.
