Following the opening reception, the day will be kicked off by a keynote talk from Dr. Sachiko Muto, Chair of OpenForum Europe and senior research at RISE.

In this keynote, Dr. Sachiko Muto will explore how open source can strengthen Europe’s digital sovereignty, innovation capacity, and competitiveness. The session will highlight strategic approaches for policymakers, industry, and research organizations to foster sustainable open source ecosystems across the EU.
The afternoon panel discussion, “From open source to open ecosystems: Europe’s next digital play,” explores how Europe can turn its strengths in open source into thriving digital ecosystems that foster innovation, competitiveness, and technological independence. Moderated by Ingo Dachwitz, political journalist at netzpolitik.org, the session brings together leading voices from across technology, policy, and business for a dynamic exchange of perspectives.
Together, the panelists will discuss what Europe’s next digital play could look like, such as strengthening collaboration across public and private sectors or building open, interoperable platforms that can compete on a global scale while supporting European values and strategic autonomy.
