Cool stuff happened on the Nextcloud app for Android! Check out all the features that were made available for Android users on 3.11.0 and also the improvements and tips which came with the 3.11.1 release.
Circle support for searching or displaying
Is Circles one of your favourite and mostly used Nextcloud app?
Now you will be able to share files to Circles on your mobile – they will be displayed among other share-lists. And they are also searchable through the search bar!
Use ONLYOFFICE/Collabora/Text when no off-line editor is available
In case you have a downloaded file that you want to edit or just open and there’s no offline editor on your device ONLYOFFICE, Collabora or Text will be used to open it. If for various reasons the file can’t be handled by these three you will get a «No app to handle the file» warning.
Set expiration date on user or group shares
This feature will allow you to set an expiration date on shares to another user of your instance or to a group even when you are using Nextcloud on your mobile or on the go. Just share a file, click the three dot menu next to the share and set an expiration date to it. The users you shared that file with, will be able to open it only before the expiration date. After that the file won’t be available to them.
Note that this feature is available if your server is running Nextcloud 18 or newer.
Improved loading view
This release brings also an improved view of folders’ content: when your files are still loading, the app will display the loading spinner and not an empty view. You will get an empty background only if loading has finished and the folder actually contains no files.
Disable rich workspaces
Are you not a fan of Rich workspaces and you need only the most important info (the files!) when using your Nextcloud Android client?
Now you will have the option to disable Rich workspaces from appearing when you’re using Nextcloud on your Android. If you disable that option on your mobile client, even when Rich workspaces are enabled on the server you will not see them on your mobile app! Note that the setting by default is enabled.
More
Of course many fixes, refinements and features are being made regularly and older versions of Nextcloud are not supported. If you run an outdated, unsupported Nextcloud, the Android app will warn you of the risks. Nextcloud 13 is the oldest release that will work with this version of our app and you will get a warning if you are still running Nextcloud 15 or older. We strongly recommend private users to upgrade their Nextcloud servers.
As companies sometimes have to use older versions, Nextcloud offers long term support. Contact our sales team for more information on this.
This version of the nextcloud Android client (version 3.12.0) is supported on Android 4.2 and newer.
