Yes, it has already been over a month that over 150 people got together for a week of coding, talks and workshops at the Nextcloud Conference. While you can watch the talks online, you might already wonder when we can get together again. Yes, the conference dates for 2018 are already fixed at August 23-30 but that is far off! So we’re happy to announce that from 30th of October to the 3rd of November, we’ll gather in Stuttgart again for a hackweek!
Collaborative pancakifying
What is this hackweek you speak of?
When we kicked off our new project back in June 2016, we had a week-long get-together to discuss how to move forward together. This was both fun and productive and we decided to do more of it! The second hackweek already brought a few dozen people together and we’ve been growing them ever since, getting together about once every other month. During the hackweeks, we focus on getting work done and being productive: going through issues, discussing and fixing them, working on our code and so on. It isn’t a time of meetings or presentations – but working. Just more together, rather than remote as we typically do! And even more togetherness in eating and drinking and having some fun, of course! Oh, and it is also the time we make these pretty pictures for our ever-growing team page and this time, we have about half a dozen new faces to add.
Of course there’s a bit of whiteboarding and architectural discussion. We also use our hackweek to plan for future releases or examine the state of the current one and come up with or discuss grand plans like our recent end-to-end encryption.

Focus
A hackweek typically has a focus, a subject we’d like to direct our efforts towards and generally, that’s the release we are working on. This time, it is of course to gear up for Nextcloud 13 and if you’d like to help make this version our lucky charm, this is the time and place to get involved! All contributors are warmly welcomed to join us and for those among you where financial issues limit travel possibilities, you should contact one of your fellow contributors who works at the company – they’ll be able to help you get some travel support!
As part of Schleswig-Holstein's state digitization strategy, the state chancellery has announced they will work with Nextcloud to develop AI for working with government documents. This comes just after we announced the first private AI assistant last weekend with Hub 6. The German state already uses Nextcloud and their AI strategy aligns with our work on ethical, local AI technologies.
