With the Nextcloud Community Conference, we are bringing together contributors, fans, and first-time attendees for two days of talks, workshops, and sharing experiences on 27 and 28 September in Berlin, Germany. But the event doesn’t stop there! We will continue our ventures during the Nextcloud Contributor Week from 29 September to 2 October with our famous “development sprints”. This is your opportunity to collaborate in person with others Nextcloud members during focused working sessions. From coding to translating or writing documentation, all skill levels come together in this community-driven week to build, improve, and collaborate on all things Nextcloud.
What are development sprints?
With the “dev sprints” or “development sprints”, we gather contributors of all backgrounds and experiences to collaborate in person on the Nextcloud platform.
As a key part of the Nextcloud Contributor Week, these development sprints offer the chance to be creative and work on ideas to improve Nextcloud, including:
Contribute to code
Test new features
Submit pull requests
Write documentation
Translate the Nextcloud interface
And anything else related to strengthening the Nextcloud platform
We strive to make the most of our time together, with four days of knowledge sharing, working next to each other, and creating impact with your ideas and curiosity.
Who can join the development sprints?
Short answer: everyone.
All skill levels are welcome, from core developers to first-time coders, as well as non-technical profiles such as designers, translators, and home users.
This is your opportunity to help improve the UX, test new features, or work on documentation, bringing your creativity to the table to make the most of Nextcloud.
Here are some examples of what you might be working on:
Build your own app
Find support to set up your Nextcloud
Bug fixes and feature improvements
Documentation updates
Cleaning GitHub sessions
Translations and accessibility improvements
Brainstorming on features & improvements
We will also have workshops for all skill levels during the Nextcloud Community Conference 2025. From newbies to experts, there will be something for everyone. The agenda will be shared by soon, so keep an eye out on the Nextcloud Community Conference page!
Why join the development sprints?
We have a thriving online community and find it important to meet up regularly in person to gain knowledge through idea sharing.
By joining the development sprints as a core developer, you will be able to get direct feedback and support from experienced contributors.
Do you have a junior profile? Then you can learn how to contribute to open source projects like Nextcloud in practice, working side-by-side with highly skilled coders.
As a non-technical person, you will be able to go beyond the code and improve the Nextcloud experience for all users, refining designs, setting up translations, ensuring documentation, and more.
And of course, whatever your background, you will be able to meet like-minded community members and the people behind the software.
To top it all off, you’ll have a chance to get your contributions merged live during the event!
How to register for the dev sprints?
Click “Register now” on the Nextcloud Community Conference page and choose whether you are attending the Nextcloud Community Conference, the Contributor Week, or both.
Don’t forget to bring your laptop, a GitHub account, and loads of ideas, curiosity, or questions!
We can’t wait to collaborate with you in Berlin for a week of impromptu problem-solving, side chats, and the fun of building something together.
