Following the announcement of the development of Euro-Office in March, the first release will be made available for all users to download<\/a> on June 9. Euro-Office enables businesses, public authorities and other organizations to become independent of Microsoft Office or Google Docs, allowing them to collaboratively create and edit documents, spreadsheets and presentations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project is the result of a collaboration between European companies and organisations, including IONOS, Nextcloud, Eurostack, XWiki, OpenProject, Soverin, Abilian, BTactic, OpenXchange and Office.eu. Many of these partners are providing development resources for Euro-Office and are continuing to expand these, creating jobs and driving innovation in Europe. In April, IONOS and Nextcloud have started hiring of a dedicated development team for Euro Office, first positions have been filled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Integration into existing solutions and ecosystems<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The first stable version of Euro-Office is set to be widely adopted, and is being integrated into collaboration solutions such as file sharing platforms, online wikis or project management tools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The office suite will release as an integration insolutions from participating companies from the outset, including the latest Nextcloud Hub 26 Spring version. IONOS Managed Nextcloud customers will be able to install Euro Office after the launch. The roll-out to IONOS’ Nextcloud Workspace offering is planned later this summer. The French company XWiki expects to integrate it in the fourth quarter of this year. Office.eu, which is based in the Netherlands, will also roll it out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Focus on stable performance and security<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Since the start of Euro-Office,focus has been on releasing a stable and secure version as quickly as possible. \u201cOur top priority was to provide a version, that people could actually work with. First, we had to clean up the code, implement some security updates, and integrate Euro-Office with existing solutions,\u201c says Frank Karlitschek, CEO of Nextcloud. \u201eThe next step is to work on the desktop and mobile apps and integrationfeatures. For a truly sovereign solution, it is also important to fully support open standards such as ODF formats, and this will be on top of the agenda for the next release.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another of the project’s goals is to make it as easy as possible for contributors to join the open source project. To this end, automated testing has been set up, code comments have been translated into English, the documentation has been improved and the code has been cleaned up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The industry initiative was launched on March 27<\/a> and has quickly gained momentum<\/a>. While the contributors and supporters of Euro-Office are Europe-based, the open source solution is open to contributions worldwide and available globally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
