Today he is the Founder & Honorary Chair of NOYB – European Center for Digital Rights.

If we want to make progress we have to collect or hand out LESS personal data, if we do so we get better innovation, financially healthier business models, more competition in the market and most importantly, more humanity.

I think the best way to learn Design is just to make things and get feedback on them. I’ve learned the most after I started contributing to Nextcloud and getting feedback for my work. I value open source and the culture, idea and philosophy behind it.

Welcome to our second podcast episode! In this episode we continue our conversation with Nextcloud designer, Jan-Christoph Borchardt, and turn our attention towards design. What is design and how do we handle design at Nextcloud? How to collaborate and what tools to use?

Jan answers these questions and many more, discussing the process of deciding on design changes and community building, accessibility, language support, and usability testing. But Jan also walks through what a new app developer can do to build an app for Nextcloud and how the interaction with them and the wider community and designers goes. Community events, where and how people get together to code and design Nextcloud, release planning – this podcast is 50 minutes and covers almost everything!

We’re very excited to announce a new project: a regular Nextcloud podcast! In this podcast we will talk about Digital Sovereignty, self hosting, privacy and more. Its host is Ingo Ebel, known at least in Germany for Radio Tux (which recently covered Nextcloud by the way).

The first episode

The first episode of our podcast, released today, is a discussion between Ingo and Jan-Christoph Borchardt, our designer and one of the earliest contributors. They talk about the history of Nextcloud, design, community and more!
