Max became known for campaigns against Facebook for its privacy violations, including violations of European privacy laws and the alleged transfer of personal data to the US National Security Agency (NSA). He is most well known for his lawsuits on the Safe Harbor agreement (Schrems I) and the EU-U.S. Privacy Shield (Schrems II).

Today he is the Founder & Honorary Chair of NOYB – European Center for Digital Rights.

Besides Daphne’s work at Nextcloud, she is a privacy researcher. She wrote her thesis in university on unnecessary data collection and held a TEDx talk called Privacy is Progress. Her goal is to inform about and advocate against surveillance capitalism and believes that, “by collecting less personal data, we get more innovation, more profitable business models, and most importantly more humanity.”

During my academic research about future of technology and also questioning how the future could look if privacy and open source become really big, if privacy would be truly respected, I was looking into different open source companies. And I was so excited to learn how Nextcloud has set up the organization. They manage to have a sustainable business model, good product, and happy users!

If we want to make progress we have to collect or hand out LESS personal data, if we do so we get better innovation, financially healthier business models, more competition in the market and most importantly, more humanity.

Here you can hear Daphne’s talk at TedxVenlo about how we CAN have privacy – if we would make the right choices. And as we all care about privacy, we’re very proud that Daphne gave such an amazing and important talk. We hope it will educate many people on the benefits and possibilities for privacy.

UX Design is more about how usable and intuitive a piece of software is. Making it optimized for usability is sort of what we do. Consistency in design is very important, especially when you have a lot of apps, shared Nimisha.

How people perceive a piece of software is a very interesting thing to me and that’s how I got interested in design. I think the best way to learn Design is just to make things and get feedback on them. I’ve learned the most after I started contributing to Nextcloud and getting feedback for my work. I value open source and the culture, idea and philosophy behind it.
